Early Life :

Joseph Stalin was born on December 6, 1878, in Georgia. He was born into a home of Georgian, Armenian, Russian, and Jewish communities. He was baptized in the same year on December 29. His father’s name was Besarion Jughashvili, and his mother’s name was Ekaterine Geladze. His parents were both Georgian as so he grew up speaking the same language as theirs. All of the other children of the couple couldn’t make it their lives past the infancy; Joseph came to be an exception.

His father, Besarion, was a shoemaker and had his workshop. The family was living well and good with their lives. Later after some time, the business fell into decline, and the family was drowning in poverty. Because of the mental and financial stress, Besarion became an alcohol addict and used to beat his wife and son often. Ekaterine, Joseph’s mother, and he left home by 1883, wandering for a place to live. They walked through different rented homes and rooms in search of a place to live. They moved the house of a family friend named Christopher in 1886.

Joseph’s mother used to work as a launderer and house cleaner. She was determined and passionate about sending her son to school and get an education. In September of 1888, Stalin got into Gori Church School. He was academically excellent and full of talent. Although, he did get into many fights. He used to paint, write poetry, act in drama classes, and singing. Stalin had faced several health problems in his childhood. First, in 1884 he got smallpox infection, and then at the age of 12, he got hit by a phaeton, which was likely to cause lifelong disability in his left arm.

Political Ideology :

Joseph Stalin has always been a believer in Marxism. Since the age of 15, his political ideology guided him throughout his whole life. He was never a Georgian nationalist, but his Georgian nationalist thought got blended into Marxism with his outlook. J. Alfred, a historian, believed that the society he was raised in was rooted in popular rituals and folklore.

With the changing circumstances, he realized a need for change. In 1917 he declared how he stands with creative Marxism. Volkogonov believed that Joseph’s Marxism came from his dogmatic state of mind. Robert Service, a scholar later said that some developments and ideologies were imperfect developments of Marxism. Stalin said that he was a practical revolutionary Marxist rather than theoretical.
