Terry Sanchez Wallace Jr., popularly known by Tee Grizzley, is an American songwriter, rapper, singer, and YouTuber from Detroit, Michigan. Born on March 23, 1994, Tee is popularly known for his singles’ First Day Out‘, ‘colours,’ ‘No efforts,’ and ‘From the D to the A.’ Grizzley’s approach of raw lyrics and visceral storytelling through his songs made him win the hearts of millions of people. Personal Life

Terry Wallace spent his childhood with his grandmother and aunt in the Joy Rd. & Southfield due to the misconducts of his parents, which landed them into prison. His parents spent most of their time in and out of jail. His mother, Latoya Perry sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment after being convicted of cocaine trafficking in 2011, while his father was assassinated in 2012. Tee developed inclinations towards rap music from a very young age. His interest in music made him start a band called ‘All-star ball hard’ in middle school and his three friends. The trio used to record songs and upload them on YouTube. 

Wallace was the first person in his family who pursued graduation. He studied finance and accounting at the Michigan State University. However, due to a lack of funds, he was forced to quit the university and his education. The following financial crises made him involved in the robbery along with his friends. He started robbing other student’s dorms while stealing $20,000 in electronics and money in February 2014. Tee, along with his friend, got into jail on February 27 but was released due to a pending investigation. Wallace fled to Kentucky, where he made a second attempt in a robbery by stealing jewelry and money from a store in Lexington, Kentucky, along with his three friends. 

Due to this act, Wallace was sentenced to nine months of imprisonment. Followed by this, he was sentenced to 15 years in jail for the Michigan state robbery in 2015. On October 16, 2016, he was released from the Michigan prison. 

Career

While Wallace was serving imprisonment, his life took a huge turning point. He began to take music more seriously and wrote his first-ever song ‘First day out. After coming out of jail, he released his debut single on YouTube, which received over 2 million views in just three weeks. 

Till 2017, he signed a contract with Atlantic and 300 entertainment records. His second single, called ‘single day out,’ was released in March 2017, followed by the third single called ‘From the D to the A,’ which featured Lil Yachty. The best o the offers continued to come his way, including the release of ‘No efforts’ along with its accompanying music video on March 31, 2017, debut mixtape ‘My moments’ on April 7, 2017, and the song ‘Detroit’ on July 28, 2017. This song got featured in a tripled Grizzley’s record sales and LeBron James Instagram video. The series of his success didn’t stop here. On September 1, 2017, his single ‘beef’ was released, which featured Meek Mill. He further won two nominations for the Best Hip Hop award in the song ‘My moments’ in 2017 as a best new mixtape and hip-hop artist. 

By October 6, 2017, he released the song ‘Win’ followed by the lead single for Bloodas, ‘What yo city like, on November 30, 2017, which he co-wrote with rapper Lil Durk. He ended 2017 with the release of the mixtape Bloodas on December 8. 

In 2018, he began with the release of single ‘Colors’ on February 2, followed by MoneybaggYo’s single ‘Don’t even trip on March 14, 2018. On March 9, 2018, Tee appeared in the new album Lil Boat 2’s song ‘Get money bros’ by Lil Yachty. After his debut studio album released on May 11, 2018, Grizzley was nominated for Push artist of the 2018 and MTV video music awards in August.

After releasing his single ‘Locked up’ in May 2019, an unfortunate event took place. On August 20, 2019, his aunt Jobina Brown and the manager were killed in the shooting. To mourn Brown’s passing, Grizzley released his single “Satish” and a music video on September 20, 2019. In January 2020, Tee Grizzley launched his single ‘Red Light’ and another single ‘Payroll’ with Payroll Giovanni in March during the same year. Followed by this, his song ‘No Talkin’ was featured in the Netflix film coffee & Kareem. He released two songs, ‘I spy’ and ‘Mr. Officer’ on May 1 and June 5 in reaction to George Floyd’s killing and police brutality. Both the songs featured members of the Detroit Youth Choir and Queen Najia respectively. Grizzley ended 2020 with the release of his mixtape, ‘The smartest.’
