Gone With The Wind is a 1939 Classic American Romance based on a novel series of the same name written by Margaret Mitchel. Directed by Victor Fleming, This film is set in the days of The American Civil War. Gone With the wind was awarded 8 Oscars, 9 Academy Awards, and the love and support fans gave this film, which was extremely precious for the crew and filmmakers. Fans adored the chemistry between the two protagonists- Scarlett O’Hara, a 16-year-old Georgian Plantation owner’s daughter, and Rhett Butler, a rich man in his 40s’. Their chemistry became unique and loveable in the days when this film came to release in theatres.

Plot:

Scarlett O’Hara lived in Tara, Georgia, with her parents, two sisters, and many slaves. The 16-year-old was secretly in love with Ashley Wilkes, who was married to his cousin Melanie Hamilton. The engagement’s date was supposed to be announced subsequent day at a barbecue at Ashley’s home, the nearby plantation Twelve Oaks. At the Twelve Oaks party, Scarlett makes an advance on Ashley but instead catches the eyes of another guest, Rhett Butler, the attractive rich man at the party. The barbecue got devastated by the terrible news of the Civil War declaration, which forced the men to hurry. To make Ashley jealous, Scarlett marries Melanie’s younger brother Charles before he leaves for the war. Very soon came the bad news of Charles’ death, making Scarlette a widow.

Scarlett’s mother sends her to the Hamilton range in Atlanta, where she creates a scene by attending a charity bazaar in her mourning attire and roaming around with Rhett. The Civil War turns against the Confederacy after the Battle of Gettysburg, during which many of Scarlett’s town’s sacrificed. Eight months later, because the Union Army attacked the city inside The Atlanta Campaign, Melanie gives birth to a baby with Scarlett’s support, while Rhett helps them flee the town. Once out of the town, Rhett chooses to run away, leaving Scarlett lamenting to form her way back to Tara. When she came back home, Scarlett finds that her mother has just died of typhoid fever, and her father has become extremely weak out of his old age. With Tara raided by Union troops and the fields neglected, Scarlett commits doing anything for the survival of her family and herself.

Characters:

Scarlett O’Hara is a 16-year-old girl who is extraordinarily egocentric and contaminated by her parents’ wealth and prosperity. She is a robust and bold character, and unlike any other women of her time, Scarlett never felt like she needed a man to protect her from life’s various troubles. Her independence made her quite wanted by the men of her town, while Scarlett was in love with the man she can’t have. She can be quite arrogant and immature at times, but her self-motivating attitude always made her win hearts.

Rhett Butler is a wealthy unmarried guy in his 40s’ who is considered witty but quite charming and fascinating. Readers often called him a sly for his attitude and nature, but besides everything, they admired his role. Readers often called him ‘A Professional Gambler,’ ‘Wealthy Rouge,’ etc.
