Who was Babe Ruth?

Babe Ruth, full name – George Herman “Babe” Ruth Jr. was born on February 8, 1895, in Maryland. Babe Ruth was an American professional baseball player. His career in MLB ( Major league baseball ) spread for 22 seasons from 1914 to 1935. He started his career with being a left-handed pitcher for Boston Red Sox. He established many records as being a left-handed pitcher and for batting. Ruth has been said to be one of the greatest baseball players of all time and a widely recognized sportsperson. He is also known from his nicknames as “The Bambino” and “The Sultan of Swat.”

Early life:

Babe Ruth was born on February 8, 1895, in Baltimore, Maryland. Ruth’s father – George Herman Ruth Sr. and mother – Katherine of née Schamberger both were from the German ancestry and were originally from Maryland. Ruth Sr. Had worked so many jobs, including rod salesman and a streetcar operator too. Ruth had seven siblings, but only one of them could make it past infancy.

While there are many instances, but most of the critical events from Ruth’s life are still missing, like his parents’ marriage date. He used to speak German as a child. When he was six, his father had a saloon. At the age of seven, Ruth was sent to St. Mary’s industrial school for boys that was a reformatory and an orphanage.

Ruth had signed a professional baseball contract with Jack Dunn in 1914.

Legacy:

Ruth is described as a unique figure in the social history of the US by Creamer. He is also recognized as one of the first celebrity athletes with biographies being made to his name by Thomas Barthel. Whenever he used to enter the field, he was known and called “The Babe Ruth.” With his career growth as a sportsman, he made more money through brand endorsements and other off-field activities.
